Welcome to the Second Trimester
Many women describe the second trimester as the most enjoyable phase of pregnancy. Morning sickness fades, energy returns, and your baby bump becomes visible.
Weeks 13-16: Movement Begins
Your baby is now the size of a lemon. The sex of your baby can often be determined by week 16.
Weeks 17-20: You Feel the Baby Move
This magical milestone called quickening usually happens between weeks 18-20. Your baby can now hear sounds from the outside world.
Weeks 21-27: Rapid Growth
Your baby gains weight rapidly and responds to light and sound. By week 27, the lungs are maturing.
Important Tests
- Anatomy ultrasound at weeks 18-22
- Glucose screening at weeks 24-28
- Regular blood pressure monitoring
Nutrition Tips
Your calorie needs increase by about 300 calories per day. Focus on calcium, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. Stay hydrated and take your prenatal vitamins daily.
The second trimester is a wonderful time to connect with your growing baby. Enjoy every moment.
